A typically mediterranean climate, dry and mild in winter,
cool and airy in summer, makes it a pleasant place
to stay at any time of the year.
During the summer, pleasant places to spend a day
include Lago di Vico, a lake that is only 10 minutes
away by car, Bolsena and its splendid lake, the seaside
at Tarquinia or the coolness of monti Cimini, mountains
with chestnut woods and a famous beechwood at
about 850 metres above sea-level.
In spring and summer there are numerous festivals,
performances and folklore events in the local area.
However, the main event is the transfer of
Saint Rosa’s carriage (“trasporto
della Macchina di Santa Rosa”) which takes place
in Viterbo on 3 September every year, crowning a month
of festivity known as the Viterbese September
(“Settembre Viterbese").
Not to be overlooked is a visit to Palazzo Farnese
in Caprarola (10 km), the ancient Papal residence
in Viterbo (9 Km), the Etruscan archaeological
sites of Saint Giovenale and Saint Giuliano, and the
Roman archaeological site at Norchia (4 km).
The small towns of Sutri and Capranica are very close
(about 8 km) where archaeology lovers can be
inspired by their ruins. |
