A typically mediterranean climate, dry and mild in winter, cool and airy in summer, makes it a pleasant place to stay at any time of the year.

During the summer, pleasant places to spend a day include Lago di Vico, a lake that is only 10 minutes away by car, Bolsena and its splendid lake, the seaside at Tarquinia or the coolness of monti Cimini, mountains with chestnut woods and a famous beechwood at about 850 metres above sea-level.

In spring and summer there are numerous festivals, performances and folklore events in the local area.

However, the main event is the transfer of Saint Rosa’s carriage (“trasporto della Macchina di Santa Rosa”) which takes place in Viterbo on 3 September every year, crowning a month of festivity known as the Viterbese September (“Settembre Viterbese").

Not to be overlooked is a visit to Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola (10 km), the ancient Papal residence in Viterbo (9 Km), the Etruscan archaeological sites of Saint Giovenale and Saint Giuliano, and the Roman archaeological site at Norchia (4 km).

The small towns of Sutri and Capranica are very close (about 8 km) where archaeology lovers can be inspired by their ruins.

Outskirtses

The Tuscia area is rich in history and culture:

The Province of Viterbo (Tuscia) is an unspoilt and friendly land, with large open areas and ancient medieval hamlets where daily life is still marked by nature and centuries old country customs.
Everywhere, from the mountains to the coast, one can marvel at the splendid evidence of an immense and totally unique monumental heritage, with a multitude of Etruscan necropolis, Roman ruins, castles, churches and palaces that bear testimony to an important artistic and cultural evolution that has taken place here through the centuries.

The large Volcanic lakes: The volcanic origin of the Province of Viterbo area has resulted in the formation of two large lake basins in the now extinguished craters: Lago di Bolsena (the largest volcanic lake in Europe) and Lago di Vico. Both lakes are natural oases of a rare beauty where swimming is possibile and situated about 15 km from our Holiday Farm.

Viterbo spa area: The hydromineral and hydrothermal basin of Viterbo is one of the most plentiful in Italy.
It consists of a number of springs, the majority of which are hyperthermal (from 40 to over 56 °C), and consist mainly of sulphurous-sulphate-bicarbonate-alcaline-earthy water.
These extraordinary thermal springs were known and used by the Ancient Romans.
Today it is possible to benefit from thermal treatments of the highest quality at the Papi di Viterbo spa (with its large thermal swimming pool) and at the thermal basins (without facilities) in the free areas.

The Eternal City lies about 60 Km away: There is an efficient transport system and an excellent road system that links our Holiday Farm to Rome.
It takes only about 30-40 minutes to reach the Great Ring Road that circles Rome making it easy to reach any point in the City.
Staying at our farm you will have an excellent base from which to tour the Tuscia and to also spend a few days discovering the treasures of Rome.
